Zivame : Breaking The Hypocrite Bars

Back in the day, when openly talking about lingerie was still a taboo in India, a young enthusiast MBA student was developing a platform so that the women of India can easily access inner wear that made them feel beautiful, confident and comfortable.

Richa Kar developed the first online lingerie platform in India by the name of Zivame. Zivame is the Hebrew word for radiance and Richa’s motive was to help women understand their lingerie needs and purchase them without any kind of embarrassment thus making them feel amazing and bring the inner radiance out.

Richa Kar completed her engineering from BITS, Pilani, followed by her management studies from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in 2007. Later, she worked for SAP Retail Consulting during which she found herself working for the famous lingerie company Victoria’s Secret.

While tracking down sales of Victoria’s Secret, she realized that lingerie sales peaked overseas but Indian women were not provided with such a range in inner wear, major reason being a communication gap between the salesperson and consumer as a lot of salesperson in lingerie stores are males. Thus, social embarrassment created a wall between women and their choice of lingerie.

     She razed this wall by starting Zivame in 2011. Post the launch of the website, there were questions raised about the image of Richa’s family in the sociETY.

Initially, Richa faced a lot of pressure but that didn’t stop her from achieving her goals. There were a lot of people who also made fun of her business. But her strength, focus, and passion made everything fall into place and now the company’s net worth is more than Rs. 681 Crore.

According to Richa, Zivame is the catalyst for change, using technology to understand women better and providing her with confidence to express her individuality. With zeal like Richa, anything and everything can be achieved.
