Kargil Vijay Diwas, named after the success of Operation Kargil. The war of Kargil was fought for more than 60 days and ended on July 26,1999. The war ended with India regaining control of all the occupied territory, and hence establishing status quo ante bellum. In this war many lives were lost from both the sides.

During the 1990s, escalating tensions and conflict due to separatist activities in Kashmir, some of which were supported by Pakistan, as well as the conducting of nuclear tests by both countries in 1998, led to an increasingly belligerent atmosphere. In an attempt to defuse the situation, both countries signed the Lahore Declaration in February 1999, promising to provide a peaceful and bilateral solution to the Kashmir conflict. All the confilcts between the two countries led to the war from the month of May. The Indian Government took the major step to the country and started the mission named Operation Kargil. The war ended with the loss of 527 soldiers of the Indian Armed Force.

Today we are living safely with our family because of the sacrifices that our India soldiers did in the history of the country.

What our prime minister said in honor to the soldier on this Vijay Diwas:

Narendra Modi, the prime minister of India gave a salute to the soldiers of Indian Armed Force by tweet: India will always remember with pride, the outstanding political leadership provided by Atal Ji during Operation Vijay. He led from the front, supported our armed forces and clearly articulated India’s stand at the world stage. #KargilVijayDiwas
